Why New Zealand?

New Zealand is known for its many dreamlike landscapes. It is one of the most isolated countries in the world with breathtaking natural beauty. The New Zealand Alps feature seventeen peaks higher than 3000 meters! Here, you will be surrounded by blue lakes, rare wildlife and plant species, and of course, radiant white peaks. Glacial erosion has led to deep water filled valleys which form the backdrop of your freeride adventure.

For whom?

The heli-ski area available is spread wide across the largest mountain range of the South Island, whichgives us a wide choice ofterrain. Whether you are novice, intermediate, or advanced on the slopes, whether you are a skier or a snowboarder, the descents are well suited to all! Anyone with a serious addictionto heli-skiing, freeriding, and challenging adventures, will get more than they asked for when they travel to New Zealand! Every day, our local partner Methven Heliski, strives to reach the maximum number of vertical meters available. You will descend a minimum of 3000 altitude meters per day. On a single day, you could ski anything from Methven to Mount Cook! Although the days may be long and intense, this adventure is not just for experts. As long as you arrive with well-trained legs, and an eager, thirsty mind, you will enjoy this lifetime experience to the fullest.

o go heli-skiing has always been a dream for me… In reality, it proved to be better than my dreams! I can hardly describe what a fantastic feeling it is. You need to experience it to understand. The sound of the chopper, the fluffy powder snow and the entire experience in itself: it’s simply without equal

Heli-ski

Methven Heliski’s take off is located at Glenfalloch Station, an area of impressive natural beauty just two hours from Christchurch. Methven Heliski has exclusive access to the vast and unique terrain between the Arrowsmith and Ragged Ranges. You will fly in a Eurocopter BA, B2 or D2 variant. During these flights you can enjoy beautiful sights that may reach as far as the Pacific Ocean and the Tasmanian Sea. It literally feels like you’re exploring a new world!

Safety

At Methven, safety comes first. A maximum of one guide per four to five freeriders is standard procedure. The guide carefully compiles his group and each guide will choose the terrain and the corresponding descents based on the wishes and experience of his group.

Christchurch, New Zealand

Christchurch is the largest city on the South Island of New Zealand, and is only a three hours’ drive from the heli-ski center of Methven Heliski. From Glenfalloch Station you will explore the rugged and highest mountain range of the island in search of those memorable freeride experiences. You will make your turns in the Arrowsmiths, a huge mountain range consisting of glaciers and mountains with an average height of 2300m. Those who pay close attention might even have a chance to discover traces of the historic Maori culture…

Terrain and snow conditions

Methven Heliski is the closest heli-ski location from Christchurch. The heli-ski area, the Arrowsmiths, extends over three mountain ranges: the Arrowsmiths, Ragged Range and the Palmer Range. These mountains catch the snow from every winter storm, thus ensuring the best snow quality and most consistent snow conditions in the country. Nowhere in New Zealand will you find better freeride conditions than in the Methven Heliski terrain!

Lodge

Methven Heliskiing has been flying from Glenfalloch Station since 1986. In just a few minutes you fly from the warm, comfortable lodge to the powder-coated slopes of the Arrowsmith Range. When you return home after a long day in the snow, the lodges’ hosts will be eagerly waiting for you. Drink your beer or local wine while you recover in one of the outdoor pools. Your accommodation consists of two large houses, both completely renovated, and overlooking the mountains where you will put down new tracks the following day.

Journey to New Zealand

It’s almost impossible to conceive a longer flight than Amsterdam – Christchurch. But your time on the plane is worth the every second once you get off the plane and step foot into this enchanting country. The trips with Methven take place from July to September. We can arrange the transfer to your accommodation upon arrival in Christchurch. It goes without saying that we’re there for you should you require help booking flights or other transfers.
